A removable denture is a prosthetic restoration that replaces lost teeth and part of the surrounding tissue. It is called removable because it is not permanently fixed in the mouth – the patient places and removes it themselves, which makes daily hygiene maintenance easier.
Unlike crowns, bridges or implants, which are cemented or surgically placed, a removable denture rests directly on the gums and the bony base of the jaw. The upper denture, by resting against the palate, creates a vacuum that holds it in place, while the lower denture has a horseshoe shape to leave room for the tongue.

Types of removable dentures
Which type of removable denture is needed depends primarily on how many teeth are missing and the condition of the remaining teeth. Both types have their own subvariants that differ by material and method of retention.
Complete denture
A complete denture replaces all missing teeth in one or both jaws. It is made of acrylic and placed directly over the gums. The base of the upper denture covers the entire palate for stability (vacuum effect), while the lower one is horseshoe-shaped.
Conventional complete denture
The standard variant, fabricated after complete tissue healing. By using PRF preparations at our clinic, this waiting period can be significantly shortened to just 2 to 3 weeks.
Immediate denture
Placed immediately after tooth extraction, so the patient is not without a smile for a single day. It later requires relining because the jaw changes during healing.
Denture with a metal base
Reinforced with an internal metal frame, which makes it thinner, stronger and more durable than the classic acrylic version.
Partial denture
A partial denture replaces one or more teeth, using the remaining natural teeth as support. This is an ideal solution when a bridge is not possible.
Acrylic denture
The most economical variant, secured with metal clasps. It is easy to fabricate and repair, and is suitable as a temporary or permanent solution.
Cast-frame (Wisil) denture
It has a metal frame that gives it exceptional strength. It is much thinner than the acrylic one, which means greater comfort and faster patient adaptation.
Valplast denture
Made of a flexible silicone material. It has no metal clasps, is aesthetically almost invisible and very comfortable to wear.

Making a denture is a precise process that requires several visits to the clinic:
Examination and planning
The dentist checks the condition of the gums and remaining teeth. If extraction is needed, a plan for the timing of extractions is made.
Taking impressions
Preliminary and definitive impressions of the jaw are taken, on the basis of which the dental technician makes a model in the laboratory.
Determining the bite
The correct relationship of the jaws and the facial height are determined, which is crucial for aesthetics and chewing function.
Try-in and delivery
The denture is tried in the mouth, final adjustments are made, and the patient receives the finished work along with care instructions.
Adapting to a new denture
Making the denture itself is painless, but wearing it requires a period of getting used to it. The denture is a foreign body and the muscles need time to adapt.
What is normal in the first weeks:
- Increased saliva production
- Mild difficulties with speech
- A feeling of “fullness” in the mouth

What is denture relining?
Over time the jawbone naturally shrinks, which is why the denture can become loose. Relining is the procedure of adding a new layer of material to the base of the denture so that it once again fits perfectly, without the need to make a new one.
