Fear of the dentist is the most common reason for postponing a visit and examination. And postponing can lead you to lose a tooth that could have been saved if you had seen a dentist in time.

However, of course, there are rare situations when tooth extraction is unavoidable even when the tooth appears completely healthy. Read below about everything you need to follow after tooth extraction…

When surgical tooth extraction is necessary

Surgical tooth extraction is the most common oral surgery procedure. This intervention is necessary in cases where wisdom teeth cannot erupt, or when the tooth root should not be preserved, meaning it cannot be strengthened or healed from infection. Today wisdom teeth have almost no function, and for this reason dentists most often recommend their extraction, because they can cause more damage than benefit. Root extraction is the only option when a dentist determines that it is not possible to heal the process at the tip of the root, or when there is so little root in the bone that it cannot perform its function, that is, it cannot support a crown or bridge.

Wisdom tooth surgery is necessary if it is determined that they are not in the correct position and if there is no possibility of them erupting without consequences to adjacent teeth. In such a case, molar extraction is not possible using forceps for a simple reason: because it has not erupted. For this reason, it is necessary to make a small incision on the gums to allow access to the tooth, after which it is freed from bone using instruments, removed, and the wound is sutured.

Fear of the dentist comes mainly from the forceps and drill shown in the picture.

Root extraction is performed by making an incision in the mucosa to make the root accessible to instruments. After that, the extraction of the root itself is performed. If there is a pus sac at the tip of the root, it is also necessary to remove it to eliminate the infection.

Diode laser can greatly facilitate the process of surgical tooth extraction.

Precautions after surgical tooth removal

Surgical tooth removal is a procedure that is usually not complicated and the wound heals quickly. However, if sufficient care is not taken, the wound can become infected and lead to serious complications. Therefore, it is necessary to follow the oral surgeon’s instructions after the procedure. The advice is not to eat until the anesthesia wears off, and after anesthesia wears off, consumption of soft food is recommended. Then, avoid rinsing your mouth and smoking for at least two days after the procedure. Take painkillers and antibiotics as needed, in consultation with the surgeon. It is also recommended to use cold compresses on the outside to reduce swelling and bleeding. But never apply a compress directly on the wound!

Follow the rules of oral hygiene maintenance the same as before the procedure. Maintaining proper oral hygiene is especially important to prevent infection. It is only important that when brushing your teeth, skip over the wound so you don’t injure it and cause it to bleed.

Vampire treatment – the most modern method that helps after tooth extraction

PRF (Platelet-Rich Fibrin) or vampire treatment is a method that has wide application in oral surgery. This method stimulates faster wound healing and tissue regeneration using only the patient’s blood! Namely, in our blood there are platelets that have an important role in our body because they are responsible for wound healing and blood vessel formation. Vampire treatment precisely uses patients’ platelets and this method has proven to be an excellent method in healing wounds resulting from tooth surgery.

If you want to recover faster from an unpleasant surgical procedure, PRF treatment is an excellent choice. This painless method is based on the application of PRF preparation to the site where the tooth was extracted.
